Qailoolah (siesta or nap at noon) is lawful particularly for those who remain awake at night for performing additional prayers or Zikr or reading the religious books.
According to the Hadees children should not be allowed to go outdoors in the evening as the Shaitaan are most active in at that time. However, they may be allowed to go out after some portion of the night passes.
On retiring to bed, Bismillah should be recited when closing the door, when putting out the lamp, when putting out the lights & when covering utensils containing water or food. Utensils containing food must not be left uncovered. If nothing is available with which to cover them, at least a twig should be placed across the mouth of such utensils (as a precautionary measure against the evil effects of Shaitaan). As mentioned above, Bismillah must be recited when doing this.
It is advisable to make ablution before retiring to bed. Before getting into bed, the bed should be cleaned thrice with the corner of a turban or any cloth. Then the following Dua should be recited before lying down: "With Thy Name, O My Lord! Have I laid my body to rest & with Your help shall I arouse it. If You capture my body, do grant it forgiveness & if You set it free, protect it as You protect Your pious servants."
Lie on the right side of your body & folding the right hand, use it as a pillow placing it under the cheek & recite this Dua: "With Allah's Name have I laid my body to rest. O Allah, forgive my sins & drive away my Shaitaan from me & free my neck of all responsibilities & let my scale of actions become heavy & include me amongst the exalted people." Thereafter, recite this Dua thrice: "O Allah! Save me from Your punishment on the Day when You shall raise Your servants (in the grave)." Thereafter, recite this Dua: "With Your Name, My Lord! Have I laid down. So forgive my sins." Then recite: "O Allah! With Your Name I die & live." Thereafter, say 33 times Subhan Allah, 33 ties Alhamdulillah & 34 times Allahu Akbar.
Before retiring to bed open both hands as in Dua & recite the last three Surahs of the Holy Quraan & blow on them, then pass them all over the body as far as they can reach. Start from the head to the face to the front portion of the body. This must be done thrice.
When lying down on the bed, recite Ayat-ul-Kursi. Whoever does this while lying down on the bed, Allah will grant protection to his as well as his neighbour's homes in the same vicinity. Moreover, the Shaitaan will not dare to approach him till the morning.
Thereafter, recite the following Istighfaar thrice: "I beg to Allah & the One besides whom there is no deity, The Everlasting & All-Sustainer & His forgiveness & I offer repentance before him." Thereafter, recite Surah Kafiroon & sleep. According to the Hadees, anyone doing this, Almighty Allah appoints an Angel to guard him while he sleeps.
Zikr should also be made before sleeping. According to the Hadees, when a person lies down to sleep, an Angel & a Shaitaan advances towards him. The Angels says: "O Son of Adam! End your day upon goodness." The Shaitaan says to him: "End your day upon evil." If he makes Zikr, the Angel guards him for the duration of the night, otherwise the devil takes charge of him.
It is mentioned in the Hadees that when a person has a pleasant dream, then on awakening he should say Alhamdulillah & mention the dream only to such people who love him so that a good interpretation could be given. On the contrary, if an unpleasant dream is seen, then on awakening, one should spit or blow thrice towards the left & recite thrice: "I take refuge of Allah against the Cursed Shaitaan." Such a dream will not cause any harm if it is not mentioned to anyone. Turning should change the sleeping posture to the other side. Even better, one should get out of bed & perform Tahajjud Salaat.
When awakening from sleep, recite: "All praises are due to Allah Who returned me my Nafs & did not cause it to die in its sleep. All praises are due to Allah Who sustains the heavens & the earth & lest they cease & if they fail there is none that can sustain them thereafter. Surely, He is Most Forgiving, Oft-Forgiving. All praises are due to Allah Who withholds the sky from falling on the earth except by His leave. Surely, Allah is Most Kind & Most Merciful to man."
Thereafter, recite the following Dua: "All praises are due to Allah Who gives life to the dead He has power over all things."
